Update on "Going to pray, ending up in Malawi"

I was finally able to visit with Anganga when I was at her village on Friday. She appeared to be good spirits and has been busy working in her field. I learned that Mama actually lives in her husband’s village and was only at Anganga’s to have her babies.

From what I can figure out baby and Mama had been doing much better in the hospital. Mama had been feeding baby on her own and he was crying. Mama and Anganga were beginning to have hope. Just four nights after he was born, Mama went into the nursery to nurse him and found that baby had died. He had simply stopped breathing.

To transport baby back to the village after he had died they put him into their bag and snuck him onto the local minibus. If the driver is aware that a passenger is transporting a body they will charge the family a much higher rate. The operator of the minibus wanted to take the bag and put it into the back of the minibus. Mama and Anganga held tight and insisted on keeping their bag with them.
