Another part of my daily routine, drawing water [kuteka mesi]. If it is not a day to fetch water for myself I usually help one of my neighbors fetch their water. Chanika village is slowly becoming accustomed to the unusual practice of a white person kuteka mesi. When I visited my language helper’s village and helped her kuteka mesi it created quite a scene.
When I initially arrived in Mozambique I started with the bucket about ¼ full and have gradually increased to a completely filled 20 liter (approx 5.3 gallon) bucket. I always try to remember to bring a hot pad along to act as a cushion for my head.
Pumping
On my way home. Bicyclists stop to watch the odd sighting.
Stopping for a chat mid journey. This guy was trying to give me a handful of sugar. I think he just wanted me to try hands free. That can be my next goal.
Tricky part of maneuvering through the gate.

Wow you are getting quite strong I don't think I could do that. I guess we get so use to turning on the tap to get water we forget how such an important thing as water can be that hard to get. LOVE THE PICTURES.
Amazing. I think I would have a difficult time holding ~44 lbs of water on my head. You must be getting a strong neck :) Thanks for posting the new pictures.
Look at those muscles! WOW!
