I spent my first three nights in the village. Janet has a lovely home and is a very gracious host. Her home has electricity but no indoor plumbing. I will post pictures when I get an better internet connection.
It is fairly loud at night, so I am still adjusting to sleeping. There is a theater just across the road; a grass hut that shows DVDs but they have some serious speakers.
Met several neighbors and went to the local market. Wow, do I ever need to get started on language learning. I am a bit overwhelmed at the thought but it is a definite necessity. I still need to get a bicycle so that transportation will be easier—perhaps next week.
The extent of my vocabulary is:
How are you? (Ali wuili?)
I am well and how about you? (Ndili chenene, kawali ajetu?)
I am well. (Ndili chenene.)

Alissa,
Congratulations on making it to the village! I hope you get well soon. Be safe. We're missing you at work.
