Happy Thanksgiving

This is a different sort of Thanksgiving. There is no feast or gathering of relatives or fall leaves or pinecone broom hockey or popcorn relays. Nobody around here knows that it is Thanksgiving. The one American I met today and greeted with a big "Happy Thanksgiving" did not even remember that Thanksgiving was today.

After a busy day out and about I spent the evening chatting in my living room with a new local friend. She is preparing for Eid celebrations this weekend when many of her friends and family will return from their pilgrimage to Mecca. It is a different type of "pilgrim"age but I plan to combine my Thanksgiving celebration feast with her family's. I certainly have a lot to be thankful for.

A few things that I am thankful for…

Hope (my heart has been shattered by the number of people who have no hope)
Adventures
People (Family, old friends, new friends, Mozambicans, Zanzibaris, Nigeriens—all uniquely created)
Passion Fruit
You, my committed blog followers. I am not sure who you all are but a special thanks goes out to those who comment (hint hint)

Tea (especially ginger tea)
Hugs
Always having running water available (although I miss chatting with the ladies at the water pump and my arms are not going to be nearly as strong)
Never being without education opportunities and access to medical care
Knowing that people on the other side of the world are praying for me and they love me.
Sunshine
Greeting everyone I pass on the road
Indoor flush toilets (especially at night)
Village wandering (my favorite activity)
Internet connections
Numerous special memories
Grace — the undeserved gift of mercy and forgiveness that God has given us

Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day. What are you thankful for?

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I don't think of it very often, but I too am very thankful for indoor flushing toilets.

Hey Alissa!
A customer once responded to my "Happy Thanksgiving" with "Every day I wake up, it's a Happy Thanksgiving!"
I too, am grateful for each gift of a new day. Stay Safe!

I am thankful for so many things, but especially for God's love for me - he is so patient as I work my way through life. I am also thankful for the love of my family and for all of my Upper County friends. May God continue to hold you in his arms as you continue your journey.
