Adjusting to Zanzibar

I have arrived in Zanzibar. I have spent the first couple of days settling in and learning my way around. I have the privilege of staying in the home of an American family that returned to the states to give birth to their second child.

I feel like I have moved into luxury. House is equipped with electricity, indoor plumbing, tile floors, washing machine, oven, air conditioning (I have not had to use as the fans work great), refrigerator, ….

I was also welcomed by a local family that lives on the property and helps look after the home. We had tea and mandazi (fried dough) together, which took me back to Chanika village. I think we will be great friends.

On my first full day here I was taken to a beach on the northern portion on the island. Needless to say it was breathtakingly beautiful. The water was warm and perfectly clear and I had a wonderful walk on the white sand beach.

I think the temperature is a very humid 85-90 degrees….perfect for me.

You may not believe this…I really really miss life in the village.

The beach is beautiful!!!! Wow it sounds a lot different than where you were staying before, I'm sorry you miss your old friends in village, but remember you touched their lives in a good way.
